How the Sentry's Parental Control Software Work?

Once downloaded and easily installed on up to 3 computers, there are 3 modes of operation: OFF, Monitor, and Block & Monitor.

In Block & Monitor mode, the child is automatically blocked from all porn sites, Myspace, Facebook as well as monitored for 'bad' chat in chatrooms. Once a violation has occurred the user's computer goes into shutdown, and the supervising adult has to enter a secret access code to re-activate it. The supervisor will also receive an email alert notifying them via their computer of the violation. The supervisor can then see why the computer was shut down. A history log can even be printed in extreme cases, for possible law enforcement. Offending IP addresses, computers and user names can be traced to assist in identifying online child predators. Note that since the software is installed on a home computer, law enforcement can arrest the predator and charge them with a felony. An entrapment defense is not available because the Sentry software is installed on a home computer. In the Block & Monitor mode, the user of the supervised computer will learn that when a violation occurs, the computer will shutdown, and thus this behavior and exposure is dis-incentivized.

In Monitor mode, the whole internet is available to the user uninterupted. The computer will not shutdown, but the supervisor is still given an email alert when a violation occurs. The supervisor can also watch "real time" what is transpiring on the monitored computer. They can manually shut down the computer remotely if they so choose. The monitor can also elect to receive text message notification of a violation to a PDA or cell-phone. As in the Auto-mode, a full history is again available. Note that in Monitor- mode, the user has no idea that the computer is being monitored (unless the supervisor elects to manually shut the monitored computer down). In the Monitor-mode, individuals will have full access to the entire internet. Supervisors will be aware of where kids have been on the internet because they will receive email alerts reporting violations. The computer will not shutdown automatically. Of course the supervising computer also maintains unimpeded access to the web. That is why we say "you can watch but your kids can't!"

Sentry OFF mode, lets you turn all monitoring off for some users on a computer. So if you have a family computer and only want to monitor what your children are doing you can simply put Sentry in OFF mode for Mom and Dad.
